Choose the BSB Subscription Plan that's right for you!
Read this post for info on BSB subscription rates and choosing the plan that's right for you!
Hey folks,
As Bite-Sized Bison continues to mold into shape and settle into its place within the IU Athletics media landscape, I’ll continue tweaking things to best position the newsletter for the future – such as new data visualizations, weekly content, content schedule, etc. One of those things is the subscription plan, which is something I’d hoped to settle this spring, and I can say with confidence that a path forward has been laid.
Update to BSB Subscription Plans (a new in-season plan!)
Up to this point, there have been three plans – free, monthly ($5), and annually ($50) – but for a publication that focuses as intently on one season as BSB does for IU Football, there must be one further wrinkle: an in-season subscription plan. To be clear: If you're already a subscriber paying $5/month, that will not change, and if you’re an annual subscriber for $50/year, that will also not change.
This is what subscription rates will look like moving forward for Bite-Sized Bison:
Free: This will exist as it currently does, with access to occasional free posts, previews of subscriber-only newsletters, the Scholarship Chart, the Depth Chart, and the Snap Counts charts. Those can all be accessed on the BSB homepage underneath “Resources.”
Offseason Monthly (January-July): $5/month; This includes all subscriber content (full access to every post, the BSB Chat, the comments section on each post, and reader polls) and the free content mentioned above. This plan is year-round (the dates are just when this rate is available), and the rate will never increase. If you subscribe at $5/month in the offseason, you will only ever pay that rate, even during the season.
In-Season Monthly (August-December): $8/month; This includes all the content mentioned for the Offseason Monthly plan, but the rate increase is for subscribing during the season, when content increases and is more timely. This rate will persist until you unsubscribe and resubscribe at the Offseason rate after December (that’s a Substack issue out of my control). If you subscribe at the $8/month rate, you will pay $8/month even when the season is over (until you unsubscribe and resubscribe at a different rate).
Annual (12 months): $50/year; This is simple. This plan includes all content mentioned above and would only need to be renewed after 12 months. You will receive an email when your renewal date is getting close.
The good news is that nothing changes immediately! The monthly rate is currently $5, but once August arrives, the monthly rate will bump to $8 and the $5 option won’t be available again until January. The annual option will always exist as it does now.
Choose the Subscription Plan that’s right for you!
Because I care about transparency and being good to those who are loyal to my work, let me lay out some potential strategies that could help.
Are you interested in the CFB offseason (transfer portal, recruiting analysis, Spring Game, etc.) and willing to read one or two posts per week about the sport without on-field happenings? Would you also be interested in occasional related NFL Draft, College Men’s and Women’s Basketball, WNBA, and NBA content? If you answered yes, then you might consider the Offseason or Annual plans. Annual totals $50 over 12 months, while the Offseason Monthly plan totals $60.
Are you only interested in week-to-week football content (on-field analysis, snap counts, scheme changes, advanced analytics statistical previews, etc.) to make you a more informed Indiana Football fan when it’s needed most? If you answered yes, then you might consider the In-Season plan, though subscribing before August might save you a few dollars.
Are you simply looking for a way to attain access to 2024 in-season content while maximizing savings? The best time to subscribe for that purpose would be any time between today (May 13) and July 31. An in-season subscription in August would total $40 by December and require an unsubscribe and resubscribe to access the Offseason rate. A subscription between May and July would give you an additional few months of preseason content while totaling at most $40 by the end of December. Plus, you’d keep the same $5/month rate if you’d like to remain subscribed at the end of the 2024 season.
Are you looking for the most convenient way to access all Bite-Sized Bison content for the lowest price? If you answered yes, then the Annual subscription is for you. At $50/year, you’d save $10 compared to 12 months of the Offseason Monthly rate and would pay just $10 more than a season’s worth of the In-Season Monthly rate.
Before moving to a subscription-based model, I’d heard a lot of great feedback from readers, and now I’ve heard plenty of positive feedback from current paid subscribers (you can see some below). I’ve really appreciated those who have stayed engaged with Bite-Sized Bison and me throughout these offseason months, and I look forward to building off of what was a successful 2023 season for the newsletter. I’d love for you – if you are not currently subscribed – to come along for the ride too, if you can.
Sincerely,
Taylor
