Bite-Sized Bison Free Resources
A one-stop shop for fan-favorite resources, created and maintained by Bite-Sized Bison.
Included with a free Bite-Sized Bison subscription are several resources that have quickly become Indiana Football fan-favorites. I often used these types resources when I was a professional sportswriter, and I use these exact resources in analysis today. They’re important to any college football fanbase, and that’s why they’ll always be free – to subscribers and non-subscribers.
This post will be linked at the top of the Bite-Sized Bison homepage for easy accessibility.
Scholarship Chart
A Scholarship Chart tracks the total number of scholarships a program has available, as well as where it has allotted them, position- and class-wise. This is a great tool for visually identifying roster holes that might need to be addressed through recruiting. The color key also offers another dimension – tracking those on the roster who arrived via the transfer portal. In the next couple years, the COVID year will time out, but until then, there is a column indicating who is currently using their COVID year and a symbol (^) to show which seniors still have a COVID year remaining. Lastly, click on the tabs near the bottom of the document to view previous seasons’ scholarship charts.
Depth Chart
A depth chart is widely understood as listing who the starters and reserves are for each position. During the offseason, a tentative depth chart is helpful for projecting the ceiling of a roster or identifying weak spots. A color key also shows which players were obtained via the transfer portal.
Snap Counts Document
Each week, a new tab is added to the Snap Counts document to show roughly how many snaps each player was on the field. Snap Count documents are great for assessing who was most-often on the field, especially those who may have gone unnoticed, and it’s also great for comparing snaps by week over the course of a season to see how players and positions are developing. This is one of the most informative in-season statistics.
The 2024 Snap Counts Document will be available following Indiana’s Week 1 game.
Active Former Hoosiers
As the transfer portal facilitates more movement than ever in college football, an interesting new element of the game is following those who were once Hoosiers as they pursue the rest of their collegiate eligibility. The document below details every Hoosiers who has transferred away and is on a collegiate football roster, along with their current program and whether they play substantial snaps for the team.
Assistant Salary Pools
This document shows how much each Indiana assistant has made since the 2023 season. It’s been particularly informative for the regime change and the proven increased investment in the football program, as Indiana increased its salary pool by a reported 20% between 2023 and 2024. To be clear, these figures are based entirely on reporting that is not mine (my reporting days are behind me), as USA TODAY typically updates its database via FOIA in August and current figures are based on Seth Tow’s reporting at The Daily Hoosier.
