Spring Camp: Day 1 Musings
Thinking about what Spring Camp means, positions to watch, early-enrollees, and how the G5 talent will translate.
Today (March 21) marks the first day of Indiana Football Spring Camp, and to say there’s a new look to the team since last year’s Spring Camp would be quite an understatement, as Curt Cignetti has tirelessly worked to get Indiana into a position to not only set a foundation in Year 1 but to also – as he’s said many times – win in Year 1.
But to get Indiana from No. 91 in ESPN’s SP+ rating to bowl bound (a common expectation for fans given the 2024 schedule) in one offseason will require continued construction up until the last possible opportunity.
What is Spring Camp, and what is its significance to this team?
Spring Camp has meant several different things as recent seasons have passed. Not long ago, teams were solidified by this point, following National Signing Day in February, and one of the biggest talking points around Spring Camp was how the early enrollees were adjusting. But in 2024, Spring Camp is a chance for rostered players to earn a spot at their respective positions and for coaches to understand what they have at each position as well, before having the opportunity to make continued tweaks to personnel. This will culminate with the Spring Game on April 18.
