Week 11 Gameday Roundup: Michigan
Quick summary statistics for Indiana's 20-15 victory against Michigan
Indiana found itself digging deep within to pull out a 20-15 win against Michigan, in what was perhaps the ugliest performance by the Hoosiers all season. Regardless of style, though, Indiana is 10-0 for the first time in program history, after being one of three Power 4 teams (Iowa State and Vanderbilt) to never earn 10 wins.
What became clear throughout the course of the game was how physically superior Michigan was in relation to Indiana. It was highlighted in the BSB Preview, but the Michigan DL — with the help of Indiana losing LG Drew Evans for the season — asserted an intense presence, tallying 4 sacks and 8 TFLs. That was exactly what the Wolverines needed to do to keep the game close, and in response, they had multiple chances to take a late lead. But Indiana held its ground defensively, in what made for the grittiest win of the season — one the Hoosiers will likely pull from in significant late-season moments to come.
For Indiana fans, the win over Michigan represents the 11th victory in 73 meetings. It also is the first witnessed by fans since 1987 and works to legitimize the win over the Wolverines in 2020 — as many seek to delegitimize the Indiana success that season. The history of this moment cannot be overstated.
The win also aids Indiana’s resume, as it’s the first victory over a major college football brand this season.
