Week 14 Recap: Purdue
Now that the dust has settled, let's take a deeper look at Indiana's matchup against Purdue.
Curt Cignetti has talked all season about a “New Indiana,” and, of course, for much of the season, he and his staff have been manifesting that new culture, bringing wins to Bloomington. But, understandably, there had been concern from various corners of the fanbase after Indiana went 1-1 against Michigan and Ohio State but looked shaky in doing so. A rivalry game against a Purdue team that showed some bite against Michigan State the previous week, and in the coldest conditions in recent memory, created a disproportionate amount of concern in relation to the eventual result. There was perhaps never a stronger signal of a “New Indiana” than its 66-0 blowout against Purdue in front of a near-full Memorial Stadium to all but seal its College Football Playoff bid.
The Hoosiers exit the regular season ranked 10th in ESPN FPI and 11th in SP+, and their chances of competing in the CFP are at 98.9%. If we were to think about a “New Indiana” within the context of the three previous seasons, this was a new Indiana, but it’s also an entirely new Indiana program, as Cignetti will soon wrap up the greatest Year One turnaround in Indiana Football history, according to ESPN SP+ historical data, and has signed to remain in Bloomington for the foreseeable future, with promised investment from administration.
It will be a few more weeks before we see this Indiana team compete again, so let’s take a deeper look not only into the Purdue game but also into how Indiana finished its 12-game schedule in 2024.
