Week 2 Recap: Kennesaw State
Now that the dust has settled, let's take a deeper look at Indiana's matchup against Kennesaw State.
Indiana’s Week 2 game went about the way many IU fans were hoping the Week 1 game would go, as Indiana crushed Kennesaw State, 56-9. The difference was that Old Dominion somewhat proved its quality this weekend, beating North Carolina Central, 54-6, and jumping to No. 72 in ESPN’s FPI rating (above three Big Ten teams). Kennesaw State is 129th.
For Indiana, the Hoosiers leapt to No. 16 in SP+ (up 21 spots) following the win. Part of this is likely because of the increased weight ODU carries (keeping an eye on the ODU-Virginia Tech matchup next week), but the jump is mostly due to this dominance Indiana fans have become accustomed to seeing from a Curt Cignetti-led IU program:
After this game, Indiana is also in a healthier place in terms of EPA/play (average value of play):
Indiana’s next opponent is Indiana State, so we’ve likely learned as much about this team as we were going to learn — save for Louis Moore’s eligibility — before Indiana plays Illinois and Iowa in Weeks 4 and 5.
