Adjusted EPA/Play
The chart below conveys each team’s offensive and defensive EPA/play, adjusted for strength of opponent and homefield advantage using ridge regression. This attributes some of a team’s performance to the understood strengths and weaknesses of its opponents and its own performance at home. These opponent strengths are living variables that change as the season progresses. For example, as Old Dominion continues to win, the pull on Indiana’s EPA/play will begin to relax for the stronger opponent.
