I'm left with the questions: "Is it your thinking that the players recruited are not good enough to win Big Ten football games?" and "Is it your thinking that the coaches don't put their players in positions from which they can win Big Ten football games?".
What does IU need to do next?
This football program seems to be the subject in the poker joke, "If you don't know who the sucker is at the table, it's likely you".
(Some team has to be at the bottom of the Big Ten, and it's clearly IU right now. How grateful must the staff at MSU be for IU? "At least we're (MSU) not them (IU).")
I think Tom Allen and his staff have done a great job recruiting potentially strong prospects but then struggle to develop them -- OL especially. I think they also did a great job recruiting in the portal this offseason. This is a fairly talented roster, but pretty inexperienced (overall and within this particular system). It takes years of foundational knowledge- and skill-building to make productive players on either side of the ball. That's why I've said before that turning over a roster in the portal isn't the best strategy. Somewhere along the line, the development fell way off because this wasn't always the case!
Somewhere Mike DeBord and Nick Sheridan are laughing. Your graphic and history show that every OC NOT named Kaelin D has been the scapegoat for fans. It’s not that OL recruiting has been awful until recently. In fact IU OC’s have been blamed since the Mallory era ended.
